Join the key collaborators behind the Nyaal Banyul Geelong Convention and Event Centre for a special conversation within the Victorian Regional Design Fair exploring the vision, design, delivery and cultural significance of one of Victoria’s most significant recent civic projects.
From its earliest conception through to its opening on Geelong’s waterfront, Nyaal Banyul represents a powerful collaboration between Wadawurrung Traditional Owners, architects, project partners and public institutions. The venue’s name, meaning “open your eyes to the hills”, reflects a deep connection to Country and a commitment to embedding Wadawurrung culture, language and stories within the built environment.
Moderated by Open House Melbourne, this panel discussion will bring together Wadawurrung Traditional Owner Corrina Eccles, and representatives from Woods Bagot, Plenary, the Victorian Convention and Event Trust and the Victorian Government Architect Office to share the story behind the project. Together they will explore how cultural leadership, architectural design, community aspirations and project delivery have shaped a new destination for business, events and community life in Geelong.
Offering unique insights into design excellence, collaboration at scale, and the creation of a landmark that reflects both place and identity, this conversation provides a rare opportunity to hear directly from those who helped bring Nyaal Banyul to life.
