Join Geelong-based artists Jennifer McElwee and Dr Jessica Laraine Williams, members of the Creative Occupation collective, for a discussion exploring experimental and innovative approaches to digital media, perception and identity.

McElwee will present Distorted Truth, an installation developed with the collective that uses light, reflection and visual art techniques to encourage critical thinking about digital image manipulation. Williams will share the technical and conceptual development of For You Portrait, an algorithmically mediated artwork created through an international artistic research collaboration, inviting audiences into a unique “staring contest” with a digital image of themselves.

Moderated by curator Dr Marita Batna, this session will explore how artists are using emerging technologies to challenge assumptions about identity, subjectivity and agency, offering new frameworks for understanding our increasingly mediated relationship with digital technologies. The presentation will conclude with a Q&A.
