Neighbourhood Score: In Relation explores how we live alongside others through politeness, proximity and reciprocal consideration.
First developed through a cross-cultural collaboration between ten artists and presented as part of the Aichi Triennale 2025 across fellow UNESCO City of Design Nagoya and Seto, Japan, the project brought artists together as neighbours to examine cultural nuances of politeness, privacy and interaction.
The exhibition brings together video, text, sound and installation works positioned in relation to one another — existing separately yet in dialogue. Gaps and intervals between works are activated to shape movement and attention, inviting audiences to navigate relationships between works while reflecting neighbourly interaction and how boundaries are experienced in communal environments.
Reflecting on neighbourly interaction and how boundaries are experienced in communal environments, the exhibition considers how these ideas are understood within a multicultural Australian context, where diverse perspectives shape our experiences of connection, privacy and belonging.
Artists will be in attendance on Fridays and Saturdays to discuss the collaborative process and themes of the work.
