Over the last year, a small and dedicated group of volunteers have been slowly planting a garden at Labuan Square in Norlane. The garden has been a way to connect with residents, slowly remediate the site, and trial emerging practices in place-making, urban rehabilitation and community engagement.
Referencing the journey of Cowies Creek, from the Moorabool plains out to Corio Quay, the garden brings together four distinct ecological regions of Greater Geelong: grasslands, rocky gullies, woodlands and coastal areas.
Each Wednesday from September 2025 to September 2026, the gardening group has gathered to plant, water and tend the garden. Over time, the project has grown to involve Norlane residents, who have contributed their time and labour, tools, garden sheds, company, food and friendship.
