The A+B Gallery presents an end-of-year exhibition of student work curated through a thematic lens connecting studio-based design investigations with material from the McGlashan Everist archive. The exhibition features projects largely situated in Geelong, engaging with adaptive reuse, education, place and Care for Country, while reflecting the layered histories of the region.
Among the featured projects is the Mayor’s Challenge, a design studio investigation into the West Fyans Street Precinct, exploring the adaptive reuse of the Wool Mills within a mixed-use development, a proposal that speaks directly to the regenerative possibilities of Geelong’s industrial heritage.
Work is presented across digital and hand-produced formats, and at multiple scales, embracing architecture as an evolving process that includes beginnings, midpoints and unresolved propositions.
The exhibition articulates the ethos of architectural education at Deakin, foregrounding process, experimentation and critical inquiry. It is situated within the adapted McGlashan Everist-designed wool store, reinforcing how architectural education is shaped by the building and context in which it takes place.
