Born in Geelong in 1922, Grant Featherston was one of Australia’s most significant and influential modernist designers, driven by the belief that design should benefit everyone and should be beautiful, functional and affordable.
This illustrated lecture by Kirsty Grant traces Featherston’s rise to celebrity status as a professional designer in the 1950s, exploring his innovative use of new materials and technologies and his production of groundbreaking furniture throughout the 1960s and 70s. It also explores his creative partnership with Mary Featherston, with whom he established Featherston Design in 1965.
