Architecture Film Nights brings the stories behind great buildings and design ideas to the big screen at Pivotonian Cinema.
The program features short films highlighting local architects and projects from Geelong and the Surf Coast, followed by The Promise – Architect B.V. Doshi, the acclaimed 2023 documentary directed by Jan Schmidt-Garre.
The film explores the life and work of Balkrishna Doshi, one of India’s most influential 20th-century architects and recipient of the 2018 Pritzker Architecture Prize. With a career spanning more than 70 years and collaborations with Le Corbusier and Louis Kahn, Doshi developed an architectural language grounded in local materials, climate, social needs and human experience.
Hear the ideas, processes and creative thinking behind local practice, while gaining insight into an internationally significant approach to architecture and design. An accessible evening for architects, designers, students, film lovers and the wider community, the event celebrates how architecture shapes the way we live, work and connect.
