Built Legacies: Education, Architecture and the McGlashan Everist Archive reveals how architecture shapes the places where communities learn, connect and grow.
At the centre of this exhibition is the landmark donation of the McGlashan Everist architectural archive to Deakin University Library. Spanning more than seventy years, the archive documents the work of one of Australia’s most influential architectural firms and its role in shaping educational, civic and community life in Geelong and beyond.
Focusing on educational projects, the exhibition brings together drawings, photographs and architectural documentation with contemporary Master of Architecture student projects. Together, they explore how architecture influences learning through campus planning, adaptive reuse, landscape, materials and human scale.
Presented within Deakin’s Waterfront Campus, itself transformed by McGlashan Everist, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity to encounter the practice’s legacy while considering how archives can inform future architectural thinking.
