Join Dr Shelley Hannigan, a Geelong resident and Senior Lecturer at Deakin University, for an interactive drop-in workshop exploring how young people imagine and design more sustainable futures.
Drawing on Artefacts of the Future 2050, a research project developed with schools across Victoria between 2022 and 2025, Dr Hannigan will share how art, design and climate change education can inspire creative responses to environmental challenges. The project invites children to imagine the kinds of futures they hope to create for themselves and their communities, using creativity as a tool for positive change.
The workshop will feature a display of children’s imaginative designs alongside insights into the project’s educational approach and classroom implementation. Participants will then be invited to take part in their own creative making activity, designing future places, systems, technologies, buildings, vehicles or other innovative solutions to emerging environmental and social challenges.
Inspired by the ideas of young people, and their own visions for tomorrow, participants will explore how creativity can help us imagine more hopeful, resilient and sustainable futures.
This workshop is for both adults and children. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
No experience is required, and all paper and drawing materials will be provided.
